Professional Board & Train Program in Austin, TX

For most dog owners in Austin, TX, and surrounding areas, training their pup turns into extra work they may not have time for in their busy schedules. While pet owners may intend to support their dog’s overall training and behavior, it’s challenging to make the time and consistently follow through with it.

With dogs, it’s important that their training and behavior remain consistent for them to follow through and come away with better obedience skills and lifelong change.

So, if you have been searching for a reputable dog board and train in Austin, send your dog to a board and train camp that will help better their manners and obedience for a happy, healthy life.

Why Choose a Dog Board and Train Program in Austin?

At ATX K9 Dog Training, we offer loving pet owners board and train programs between one and four weeks. This allows you to choose the perfect amount of dog training to manage various skills, help manage behavioral issues, and provide basic obedience training.

Whatever the reason for your dog training needs, you can trust that ATX K9 Dog Training provides extensive support for your pup. This means the training equipment is in one place with professional dog trainers and private lessons.

Continue reading below how ATX K9’s Dog Training model works over the course of four weeks.

1-Week Austin Board and Train

A one-week board and train is the minimum package we offer at ATX K9. This is because most dogs need one week of training and boarding to grasp some obedience skills and behavioral cues fully. Keep in mind that one week works for some pets while others need much more time to adjust and train.

With our one-week program, you receive the following:

  • Climate-Controlled Facilities in a Real-Home Environment
  • Basic Obedience Skills
  • You Choose 2 or 3 Priorities for Your Pup
  • Leash Training
  • Two Private Sessions Post One Completion of the Initial Program
  • All Equipment Your Dog May Need (training treats, leashes, etc)
  • Support Available via Text, Email, or Calls

2-Week Austin Board and Train

Two-week programs are very similar to one-week programs. However, the extra week allows trained professionals to provide more support for your dog. These two weeks include additional practices that help take your dog’s training to the next level rather than basic level care.

The two-week plan provides the following:

  • Climate-Controlled Facilities in a Real-Home Environment
  • Basic Obedience Skills and Basic Off-Leash Obedience
  • Safe Interactions with Children
  • Interactions and Distractions with Other Animals
  • Advanced On-Leash Training
  • A Single “Field Trip” (taking the dog out of the home environment and into a real-world situation)
  • Two Private Sessions Post One Completion of the Initial Program
  • All Equipment Your Dog May Need (training treats, leashes, etc)
  • Baseline Behavioral Modification
  • Support Available via Text, Email, or Calls

3-Week Austin Board and Train

A three-week program may do the trick if a two-week board and train session isn’t extensive enough. The main difference between two and three weeks is the opportunity to expand the dog’s experiences. For example, your dog will receive more time to modify behaviors, experience field trips, and get a broader scope of training.

To be more specific, the three-week board and train program includes the following:

  • Climate-Controlled Facilities in a Real-Home Environment
  • In-depth Obedience Skills
  • Advanced Off-Leash Obedience and On-Leash Obedience
  • Safe Interactions with Children and Animals
  • Taught Focus around Distractions
  • Two Private Sessions Post One Completion of the Initial Program
  • All Equipment Your Dog May Need (training treats, leashes, etc)
  • Behavioral Modification
  • Multiple Field Trips in the Real World to Broaden the Scope of Training Experiences
  • Support Available via Text, Email, or Calls

4-Week Austin Board and Train

Finally, the four-week board and train program is the most extensive. In four weeks, our trainers take the most advanced approach to training. With a four-week program, we can provide more advanced and custom-suited training for your pup.

The four-week board and training program includes the following:

  • Climate-Controlled Facilities in a Real-Home Environment
  • Advanced Level Obedience Skills
  • Safe Interactions with Children and Animals
  • Advanced Focus on Distractions Like Other Animals
  • Tailored Obedience and Training to What You Need
  • Advanced On and Off Leash
  • Multiple Field Trips for Expansive Training Experiences
  • Two Private Sessions Post One Completion of the Initial Program
  • All Equipment Your Dog May Need (training treats, leashes, etc.)
  • Support Available via Text, Email, or Calls

What Your Dog Will Learn in our Board and Train Program

At ATX K9 Dog Training, your dog will learn a variety of lifelong skills. Some of these skills include basic manners and commands. Examples include not jumping on guests, food manners, and commands like sit, come, paw, heel, lay down, and place.

Other things your dog may learn include on-leash or off-leash training, so adjusting to home life is more accessible.

Behavioral Evaluations and Adjustments

Additionally, we also offer dogs behavioral evaluations. During evaluations, we determine if your dog requires any behavioral adjustments due to behavior issues. For example, we’ll determine if your dog is reactive or aggressive to dogs or other humans.

We’ll work with your dog to mitigate these behaviors to help them create safe interactions or distractions from other animals or children. These changes are done with special care and ease, keeping your dog’s safety at the forefront of the board and train program.

With our team, you get seasoned vet technicians on hand as staff. Plus, we also have the support of our dog trainers who care for the pups like their own. FAQs are a great way to get quick answers to your Austin TX dog training and boarding questions.

At ATX K9, we’ve ranked our most frequently asked questions and posted them with sound advice, tips, and tricks.

You’ll find information about our operations and policies which we believe is the best source for answering inquiries that you may have about our services. Years of work and training have gone into our methods, and our FAQs reflect that experience. Of course, if you have questions that you can’t find the answers to on our FAQ page, we’ll be glad to respond to questions and comments left on the form at our contact page. Please feel free to call us as well. We want to make sure that you have the most relevant and accurate information possible when it comes to caring for your dog.

No, your dog does not have to be spayed or neutered to participate in private lessons, boarding, or boarding and training. We do however ask that you notify us if your pup is in season or may be coming into season, and that board and trains be scheduled around your female’s season if possible. If your female comes into season while boarding with us, there will be a $5/day additional charge for the extra care and cleaning necessary.

We ask that all boarding/board and train dogs bring their own food. This ensures that your dog’s stomach does not get upset upon arriving in our home or when returning to yours.

You are welcome to send bedding and chew toys for your dog’s crate, but we do not guarantee that they will return in the same condition as which they are sent. Please do not send any stuffed toys.

We kindly ask that you not send any sentimental items with your dog.

We do accommodate all diets, including raw diets. If your dog is on a raw diet, please pre-package his daily meals and freeze them. We have large freezer to store his food and will thaw his meals daily.
We have a veterinary technician on staff who will dispense your dog’s medication daily. We do accommodate diabetic dogs and dogs with special needs.
Currently, we are not accepting dogs who have bitten/drawn blood on another animal or human.

We work with all breeds and ages. We do not discriminate based on breed and enjoy working with all breeds.

For puppies under 16 weeks (before rabies shot), we offer an in-home puppy lesson.

Puppies/dogs over 16 weeks (after rabies shot) are eligible to participate in any of our programs.

7:00-9:00 am: Morning potty breaks, playtime, and feeding —- 9:00-10:00am: Morning walk —- 10:00am-12:00pm: Playtime and short training sessions —- 12:00pm-6:00pm: Training around the house, at parks, and field trips —- 6:00pm-10:00pm: Playtime, feeding, and short training sessions —- 10:00pm: Bedtime

Our methods depend on the individual dog. The short answer to this is that we strive to make training extremely fun for the dog while still training dogs to be reliable and obedient. We teach our dogs to do their commands in any environment. The dogs trained by ATX K9 are treated with the upmost care and attention, and are happy, healthy dogs at the end of training.

We are “balanced trainers”, meaning that we believe that dogs must certainly hear that they are doing things correctly (and often!), but they must also be made aware when they are acting inappropriately.

ATX K9 uses multiple tools in training including treats, clickers, martingale collars, prong collars, and/or remote collars. We are not limited to one tool, we find the tool that best fits your dog and your lifestyle.

We work with young puppies who are just starting on their life journeys and dogs that are highly aggressive and who have bit multiple people. Because of this, our results will vary based on the needs and temperament of the dog.

During private lessons much of the dog’s progress is dependent on the owner. We guarantee that we will give you the skills to train your dog as outlined in the chosen package.

With a board and train the dog’s progress is dependent on the trainers at ATX K9. We guarantee that your dog will display knowledge of his commands as outlined in the chosen package upon returning home to you. After your dog returns home, you will be responsible for following through with training (we teach you how) and contacting us with any questions.

Above all, our goal is client satisfaction and care of the dogs that we work with. We will always assist a client who is putting in the necessary work with their dog.

This is entirely up to you! There’s really no *wrong* choice.

Choosing to do a private lesson package is similar to choosing to do personal fitness training. We show you what exercises to do, but you’re responsible for doing the exercises daily. If you don’t follow through on your ‘homework’, you won’t see progress. While private lessons are an amazing way to build a deeper bond with your dog, we always encourage clients to be honest with themselves about their available time and level of commitment.

Board and trains take the teaching out of the equation. We teach the dogs their new skills, and you simply reinforce their skills at home. Board and train is a quick, immersion style of training, and clients see results much faster than with private lessons. However, board and trains are more expensive, and some clients find it difficult to be away from their dogs for 1-4 weeks.

ABSOLUTELY! We know that you are going to miss your dog soooo much. When you enroll in training, you will create a profile on our client portal. That profile will allow us to send you updates in the form of ‘report cards’. You can find a sample ‘report card’ on our instagram. These updates will be sent out every three days during your dog’s stay and will contain a written update along with a photo or video

Yes! We will never keep someone away from their pup. You are allowed to schedule a visit during their stay!

We encourage clients to think about their dog’s temperament/personality when considering visiting. Sometimes, dogs that are more timid or anxious can struggle after a visit with their owner. It can be confusing for your dog to see you come for a bit and then leave again.

If you’d like the opportunity to visit, please don’t hesitate to discuss with us so we can make the best plan for you and your pup.

Our property consists of 2.5 acres and two beautiful buildings – our personal home, and a custom built, climate controlled boarding/training building. Duing the day, your dog will be in our personal home learning through immersion with our two human kiddos, outdoors on the property (ALWAYS supervised), and in our heated/cooled indoor training space. The dogs in our care sleep in properly fitted, top of the line crates.

We take safety VERY seriously. Not only do we live on site, but our building is monitored 24/7 for fire, flood, burglary, power loss, and temperature changes (we are notified immediately if the building temperature drops below 60* or rises above 78*). Our building is also on a backup generator that switches on in the case of power loss.

We currently only offer boarding to clients who have completed a training program with us.

For those clients, we offer two options – standard boarding, or board and review.
